Personal statement
As the University's Specialist Health and Safety Manager, I lead a small team of specialist advisers in radiation, chemical and biological safety. With a remit for general health and safety our team also provides general health and safety advice, and oversees the eRISK and SIRIS systems.
I am also the University's Biological Safety Adviser, responsible for advising on the management of health and safety matters related to biological risks within the University to ensure legal compliance. This includes providing advice to the University's biological community on both strategic planning for biological safety and daily operational issues.
Previous to my current role I worked at the University of Glasgow as a Research Associate following completion of a PhD in Cardiac Electrophysiology in 2002, with a stint developing adenoviral fluorescent probe technologies for imaging cellular calcium. I joined the University of Strathclyde in 2016 as University Biological Safety Adviser and transitioned to Specialist Health and Safety manager in 2019.
